Difference between eczema and dermatitis

Question : I get confused between eczema and dermatitis. Which is which?

Answer : They are both aspects of exactly the same condition. Dermatitis is used to describe the acute condition of swelling, redness and blistering of the skin. Eczema describes the chronic long-standing condition with ugly scratch marks and thick, dry patches of skin. Whichever you suffer from the skin itches, and it’s the continuous cycle of itching and scratching that makes the condition so very miserable, as well as being unattractive to look at.
